Our next production: Lungs
A young couple considers parenthood. They want to have a child for the right reasons. But, in a time of global anxiety, erratic weather and political unrest, what exactly are the right reasons?
‘A woundingly intense two-hander…It is the most beautiful, quietly shattering play of the year.’ ***** The Express
We are delighted to announce that we will be presenting our next production this May. As our loyal newsletter subscribers, you are the first people to find out!
Lungs, written by Duncan MacMillan, is a powerful exploration of the choices facing us all in the age of climate crisis. First performed in 2011, the play is even more pressing as the anthropocene advances, with the human population now exceeding 8 billion and the world surpassing its ecological boundaries.
For this production, we have partnered with RESET.Brussels, a temporary occupation in the centre of Brussels, and a vivid example of the innovative ways that Brussels is using its vast resource of otherwise empty buildings.
The play will be directed by Kate McGregor, who will be supported by an international creative team to put together this original production especially for you.
Lungs will run 17 May to 3 June and tickets will be on-sale soon!
More than just a play
We are not just interested in making great theatre! We also want to create a conversation. As such, we are now looking for partners with an interest in showcasing their work on sustainability issues to join our Sustainability Fair. Think you or your organisation could be a good fit? Grease is the Word
Spring is just a few weeks away. That means a new series of Workshops for theatre enthusiasts. We are so thrilled to be able to provide inspiring experiences for all people and the happy faces we see during the Workshops tells us we are doing something right.
The Spring Term of our Musical Theatre Workshop will run 16 April - 2 July. Each Sunday you get one hour each of acting, singing and dancing. And this term, our focus musical will be Grease! So come slip into some Summer Lovin’ with us after Easter. There are worse things you could do… (to paraphrase Edward’s favourite song from the show).
You can sign up for the Spring Term of our Musical Theatre Workshop now!
And, if doing the hand jive is not your thing, never fear! We are in the process of finalising our spring series of ACT Workshops (Sundays, 4pm-7pm) and we are now lining up other Workshops for you to get stuck into. Stay tuned to our social media for more announcements soon!
Finally, for those of you with kids and teenagers, please save the date of our Summer School 2023: Monday 21 August - Friday 25 August. We provide is five intensely fun and incredibly rewarding days of performing arts tuition, culminating in a showcase of a popular musical. And in case you are wondering what the week is like, one parent recently described their child’s experience with us as “life-changing”.
Call for Trainees
As you can see, we have a lot on, and our small team of volunteers that run The Bridge Theatre – Edward, Eva, Karen, Ofri – are rushed off our feet! That is why we would love to give the opportunity to an enthusiastic young individual (or two) to learn more about what it takes to run a cultural start-up. We are especially looking for people who want to actively learn about the European cultural ecosystem with an interest in communications, fundraising or administration.
Do you know someone who might be able to commit to 2-6 months working with us (preferably full-time)? Please forward them this email!
Interested parties can send us a CV to → info@thebridge.brussels.
