Copenhagen by Michael Frayn
They were friends before the world went to war. Niels Bohr and Werner Heisenberg once worked closely to unlock the secrets of the atom. Then war placed them on opposite sides.
It’s 1941. Heisenberg, now a leading figure in Germany’s atomic research programme, visits Nazi-occupied Copenhagen to meet his former mentor, Bohr, and wife, Margrethe. The atmosphere sours quickly. What passed between them has never been agreed upon, and the details of that encounter remain one of the greatest mysteries of the Second World War.
Why did Heisenberg come?
Michael Frayn’s Copenhagen returns to that meeting, a moment that cannot be settled, neither by history nor by the people who lived it. As the three revisit that fateful evening, memories clash, motives are questioned, and certainty proves elusive. The search for what happened becomes inseparable from the question of whether the truth can ever be known.
Directed and designed by Robert Chevara – returning to The Bridge Theatre for the third time, having previous directed for us Vincent River and Frankie & Johnny in the Clair de Lune – Michael Frayn’s multi-award-winning Copenhagen is a gripping human drama about friendship, duty, and the choices that can change the world.
We are excited to present a brand new production of this unique play on the Brussels stage. We have a pan-European creative team and cast bringing this quintessentially European play to life for our European city - more details about the team coming soon.
Copenhagen will run between 15 October - 6 November, in La Maison Qui Chante in Rue Du Viaduc 122, Ixelles - right by Rue du Trone.

Help us spread the word about Copenhagen - and win prizes!
It takes a village to make theatre. But this phrase is not just referring to the people on stage or behind the scenes. It addresses everyone who helps make a production successful. And that includes the people who show their support by helping small cultural organisations to spread the word and bring people through the door.
That’s why this time we decided to make it official.
We are inviting you to be a part of the team (just for a little while) and help us encourage people to come watch the show. The more tickets you sell, the more chances you have to win a variety of prizes: From free drinks and Bridge merchandise to show tickets, and even a free spot in one of our workshops!
Interested? Please let us know by filling the following form and we will get back to you with more details.
