Dream with us at the Brussels 2030 Summer Assembly
This week, the Brussels cultural world will be focused on the second annual Summer Assembly, organised as the city gears up to apply to be the European Capital of Culture in 2030.
The Summer Assembly is five days of discussions and events that aims to take the temperature of the city and include all voices of our diverse city into its final application. And it kicks off tomorrow, Wednesday 28 June!
You can find the full programme via their website.
Be sure to attend on Friday 30 June, when our Artistic Director, Edward McMillan, will be taking part in the morning discussion on Imagining a bold and creative future: Brussels as the capital of ideas and imagination for 500 million [sic] Europeans.
We hope to see you there!
Final places up for grabs at this year’s Summer School
Have you signed up to our Summer School yet?
It is truly our most rewarding week of the year: we gather together around 30 young people for five days, split them into three age groups, give them some unique masterclasses, rehearse a show with them, and then perform it to friends and family. Our participants love the challenge of putting on a show in a week and each year they pull it off with tremendous energy and skill. It’s no wonder that we have so many participants come back year after year.
Want to get a taste of what to expect? Check out the teaser below.
This August, our focus of work will be High School Musical, the classic Disney movie that is loosely based on Romeo and Juliet. So come and Getcha Head in the Game with us this year. It’s the perfect way to end your summer holidays.
The Bridge Theatre Summer School is open to all aged between 10 and 18 and runs Monday 21 – Friday 25 August at Grand Hospice in central Brussels.
Give your voice to the future of Brussels
Did you know more than one in three Brusselers is a non-Belgian and this means they cannot vote in regional (i.e. Brussels-wide) elections?
Brussels Voice is a democratic participation platform for International Brusselers implemented by commissioner.brussels (an arm of the Brussels region). The aim is to give non-Belgians in Brussels the chance to have their say on the policies that affect their daily lives.
In 2022, Brussels Voice published the Manifesto of the International Brusseler: 22 proposals developed by around 1500 participants. For Brussels Voice 23, they are recruiting 45 International Brusselers, selected at random among those who register to attend three workshops at commissioner.brussels then spend a full day at the Brussels Parliament working and debating alongside regional MPs.
And you can get involved! Apply by 16 July at: brusselsvoice.commissioner.brussels. And who knows, maybe you will get the chance to help us campaign the government on the need for more support for culture in English in Brussels!
