Launching: Saturday Nights at the Studio
Our Studio in St Gilles is not only a place for our Workshops and rehearsals, but it is also an event space, too!
Our Christmas Cabaret in December was a test event for the Studio and it worked so well that we have decided to launch a series of events called Saturday Nights at the Studio.
On selected Saturdays over the coming months, we will host unique events for you to watch, participate and, sometimes, perform in! Our Saturday Nights at the Studio range from €5-€15 entry, depending on the event, and with a bar on-site for you to purchase drinks, we guarantee you a fun night of theatrical entertainment.
We kick off on Saturday 1 February with a screening of our highly acclaimed first production, Vincent River by Philip Ridley. Written by the same playwright as Radiant Vermin, Vincent River explores the ripple effects of a homophobic murder in East London.
On Saturday 15 February, we invite a handful of local actors to perform in a play for an evening we are calling Secret Scenes. The trick is that they only find out what the play is and which character they will play on the night itself, as we announce it to you, our audience. Standby for a hilarious farce, performed by talented actors who are finding out where the plot is going at exactly the same time as you!
On Saturday 1 March the stage is all yours for our first Musicals Open Mic Night. Join us to make that dream number come true! It doesn't matter if it's a solo or a group piece, you are welcome to test the waters and share your gifts with everyone. Or… just have a fun night listening to local talents performing musical theatre for you.
Stay tuned to find out what events we have planned for you next!
Limited capacity so book your tickets now.
It’s not too late to sign up for ACTing sessions this term!
Did you know that we have weekly masterclasses in different facets of acting? Our ACT workshops are ideal for busy people who cannot make the commitment of a full module of classes, but find themselves with a Saturday afternoon free! They are open level, meaning they are suitable for all and that is the joy of them: you never know who you will meet there - fresh beginners and seasoned professionals are both welcome to register!
Each ACT Workshop is led by one of a number of our actors, who give a masterclass in a topic they are expert in.
Upcoming ACT Workshops are:
Saturday 18 January, Animal Studies with Flora - Animal work is a form of physical practice that actors can use to shape and create a character.
Saturday 25 January, Develop a Stage Character with Petar - This masterclass is designed to help participants develop a fully-fledged stage character from scratch using a blend of classic techniques and modern creative exercises.
Saturday 1 February, Stage Combat with Desi - Dive into the exhilarating world of stage combat and learn how to bring action-packed scenes to life in a safe and controlled environment.
Saturday 8 February, Chekhov meets Chekhov with Petar - This masterclass brings together the classic monologues of Anton Chekhov with the powerful physical and psychological techniques of his nephew, Michael Chekhov.
Free during weekday daytimes? We are looking into setting up workshops for those of you (perhaps who are more senior) who are available when others are in the office sat at their desk. Interested in us pursuing this option? Let us know by replying to this email!
Kicking off our Confident English programme at European School I
We are delighted to be running our Confident English programme for a second year running at European School I, with the support of their parents’ association, the APEEE.
In this series of one-off workshops with around 500 11-13-year-olds, our experienced actor-facilitators will enable pupils to not only practice their spoken English in a fun, interactive setting, but also to build more meaningful connections with each other and develop their teamwork skills.
Think this could be something for your school? Get in touch to start the conversation!
